Today, I'm telling you a little about my native region, the Salmian region known for its witches "Les Macralles", and about a superb walk that I only did for the first time in October 2020 during the autumn period of mushrooms and beautiful colors. Shame on me to do it so later!
It's a little further from here, about 30 minutes by car, but I love this part of the Haute Ardenne, which is steeper and sportier in my eyes.
This 13km walk begins at the Tourist Office in Vielsalm, and then goes up to Cahay and the Bec du Corbeau, from which you will have a superb view of Salmchâteau and our forests. Do not miss this point of view, it is indicated thanks to an old wooden sign but you have to venture on a micro path to the point of view from the rock. Then turn around. You will retrace your steps and continue to an observation platform with a magnificent view of Vielsalm, where goats sometimes graze in semi-freedom (close the access barriers well). The walk then continues down a small path to Salmchâteau. Direction towards the small castle then from which you will take a path going up through the woods towards the Bonalfa. You will end the ride by taking a small single track, with a magnificent panorama of Vielsalm and the lake of the "Doyards", then descending to Rencheux and the Vielsalm lake, to reach the start.
Be careful, this walk is quite sporty with more than 500m of elevation gain, but the views have to be earned! The GPX plot is personal, so I advise you to download it.
GPX route (to be used with your watch or some applications like OpenRunner / Komoot / Cirkwi etc ...) :
If you then want to eat or drink a good "Vieille Salm" beer from the barrel, go to the Contes de Salm in Vielsalm where the setting is very beautiful.
And if you ever get the chance to be there on July 21st parade, don't miss the party for any reason.
